A fatal early-morning crash in Argyle has claimed the life of Jaykub E. Anderson, 32, of Mineral Point, Wisconsin, following a single-vehicle incident that occurred along the 5000 block of State Highway 81.
According to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office, the crash took place on Thursday at approximately 5:30 a.m. Authorities believe Anderson was operating a 2012 Peterbilt quad-axle milk truck westbound on STH 81 when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle left the roadway on the north side.
Investigators report that the truck traveled through a ditch before continuing toward the edge of an abandoned quarry. The vehicle then went over the embankment and fell into the quarry below, resulting in a severe and catastrophic impact. Officials confirmed that the truck overturned upon reaching the quarry floor, causing extensive damage to the vehicle. The milk tank, reported to have been partially loaded, also separated during the crash due to the force of impact.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene shortly before noon after the crash was reported. Lafayette County Sheriff’s Deputies, Argyle Fire Department, and Argyle EMS were among the first on scene, with additional assistance provided by the Wisconsin State Patrol, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, and the Lafayette County Highway Department.
Despite coordinated recovery and response efforts, Jaykub E. Anderson was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Lafayette County Coroner’s Office. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Due to the difficult terrain and severity of the incident, recovery operations were complex and required extended roadway management. Traffic along STH 81 was reduced to a single lane for several hours while crews worked to safely document the scene and remove the heavily damaged vehicle from the quarry area.
At this time, authorities have not determined what caused the truck to leave the roadway. The investigation remains ongoing as officials continue to examine all contributing factors.
Beyond the official investigation, Anderson’s death has deeply affected those who knew him. He is being remembered as a hardworking individual whose life ended suddenly and unexpectedly while on duty, leaving behind a grieving family and community.
