South Lake Tahoe firefighter-paramedic Neil Schnaible is in critical condition following a sudden medical emergency while on duty that led to a severe collapse and traumatic injuries.
According to officials from the Lake Valley Fire Protection District, Schnaible suffered a heart attack while actively responding to an incident. Fellow firefighters immediately began life-saving measures, including CPR, and were able to restore his pulse at the scene.
Despite the rapid response and successful resuscitation efforts, Schnaible’s condition remained critical. During the collapse, he fell and struck the pavement, sustaining serious head trauma. Medical personnel later confirmed multiple brain bleeds resulting from the impact.
He was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center, where he remains under intensive care as doctors continue to monitor his condition closely.
