A tragic late-night crash in Memphis has claimed the life of 33-year-old Chasity Ervin and left two infants critically injured, in what authorities say was a DUI-related incident now under investigation by the Memphis Police Department.
According to police, the crash occurred around 10:30 p.m. Thursday on Stage Road near Robbiedon Street in the Raleigh area. Investigators report that a Nissan Murano driven by 33-year-old Travis Johnson lost control, struck a median, and overturned, resulting in severe damage and a chaotic emergency scene.
Chasity Ervin, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced deceased as a result of her injuries. Her sudden passing has left family members, friends, and loved ones in deep grief as they struggle to process the loss of someone described as caring and deeply connected to those around her.
Also inside the vehicle were two infant children, ages 1 year and 2 months, who sustained critical injuries in the crash. Both were transported to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, where they remain in serious condition as medical teams continue life-saving treatment.
Authorities reported clear signs of impairment at the scene. According to investigators, the driver exhibited bloodshot eyes, and containers of Colt 45 beer were found both inside and outside the vehicle. Officials believe alcohol was a significant contributing factor in the crash.
The driver was initially taken to the hospital for treatment before being taken into custody. He now faces multiple charges, including driving under the influence, reckless driving, public intoxication, and two counts of reckless endangerment. He has since been booked into the Shelby County Jail.
